author, poet, teacher, and performer
I’m delighted to be offering a free talk and Q&A about the Kural through the King County Library System in Washington State.
Here is the event description:
“In South India, the Kural is revered as a guide to practicing goodness and good sense in daily life. Yet this masterpiece of world literature, on par with the Tao Te Ching and the poetry of Rumi, has long lacked translations that make its guidance available in English.
“Poet Thomas Hitoshi Pruiksma shares his journey with translating this seminal work. He explores Part Three of the Kural, on love and the ways of the heart.
“Although this part has often been overlooked, as Thomas hopes to show, its verses on how we come to understand each other in relationship are as profound as the Kural’s verses on ethics or power.
“Feel inspired, renewed and reminded of truths that can help us to navigate times of great change.”
