Learning That Starts From Within

November 13, 2025

A quick reminder that I’m offering a free webinar. Scroll down for details!

A Paradox

Anyone who teaches or studies anything formally has to confront a paradox:

If you’re a teacher, you have a body of knowledge or experience that you want to convey and about which you may have very deeply felt convictions. All of your energy then goes into making sure your students get all that you have to give.

But if you’re a student, you can end up experiencing the teaching of that knowledge or experience as something done to you rather than something done for you. Your own interest in that subject is then treated as secondary to the subject itself.

The Catch

We might call this the bucket and spigot theory of education. The student is the bucket and the teacher is the spigot, with the subject being the liquid passing from one to another.

Nobody, however, just wants to be a bucket. We also have our own questions and the things we’re most eager to learn.

It’s only when a student’s desire to learn meets a teacher’s desire to teach that the true magic of learning takes place. And sometimes a student’s desire to learn becomes so strong that they become a teacher themselves in the process.

Making Connections

That’s why I’m so excited to be in conversation with Kasthuree Thiyakalingam in my no-cost webinar this weekend. Her journey in following her own desire to learn has led to her becoming the sort of teacher that others yearn to study with.

Join me on Saturday in hearing her inspiring story and learning how she came to ask questions nobody else was asking. We’ll explore ways to cultivate the desire to learn, and how doing so can lead to new connections between people, cultures, and generations.

LEARN MORE AND SIGN UP

I hope you’ll join me for what I’m certain will be a very meaningful conversation.

And if you know anyone who may also be interested, I’d be honored if you shared this post with them.
